Jones was given Employee-of-the-Month
award. Since he felt guilty that we did all the work and he got all the
credit, he decided to share the award money with us by taking us on a dinner
cruise. Hmmmm... Free food and a cruise around the bay? We're there!
It was a fine night for a cruise on the California
Hornblower! With a name like that, I was expecting to see a curvaceous lady
figure-head blowing on a horn, but I guess modern cruise ships don't do figure-heads
anymore. The sun was just setting as we start out. Although it turned chilly
as the night wore on, the fog never fully took over. The dinner lasted through
the entire cruise. The food was scrumptious! The desserts were yummy! All
the spouses opted for the "deluxe" chocolate dessert (at a cost of an additional
$7 each) much to the chagrin of Jones. Between dishes, we made mini-excursions
on top deck. The Golden Gate Bridge still takes my breath away, especially
when treated with an up close view looking up from the waters. Unfortunately,
the lights on the Golden Gate Bridge all came out looking fluttery (what
the bridge looks like through Randy's eyes after a few drinks!). :-) There
was a game going on at Pacific Bell Park. We can tell someone hit a home
run as we went by as the stadium exploded in a cheer that traveled clearly
across the water. I found out later that the Giants were playing the Los
Angeles Dodgers, with the Dodgers clobbering them with a score of 10 to 1
(Ouch!) , ending Barry Bonds' home-run streak. Here's an article covering
that painful game from the San Francisco Chronicle: Dodgers
Hammer Giants/Bond's Home-Run Streak Comes to End. Well, at least we
were having a good time!
