Larry's birthday was
May 29th. He turned 47 this year (and that's pretty old!). We were going
to take him out to dinner for his birthday after the Max Roach show,
so he picked the restaurant. Greg and Carl joined us. Bacar is located in
the South of Market in a section of town that might have been lively during
the dotcom bloom but now lies desolate with empty warehouses. Bacar is Latin
for "wineglass." Naturally, the restaurant featured a fine selection of over
200 different wines. Larry brought his own wine though. He was laid off a
few months ago and now works for a wine importer. He said that he sells some
of the wine to Bacar.
The food was delicious, as was to be expected given the world-class chef
behind it, but very costly! Even without having to buy wine, our share of
the bill for three people (which included Larry) came out to $240! While
we love Larry, we are still debating whether he is worth that much. Next
time we take him out for dinner, it will be fine Irish dining at McDonald's.
